Tatiana Gardel.jpg

Hi! My name is Tatiana Gardel. I'm an illustrator and teaching artist living in New York City. Born and raised in Brazil, I received my BFA in Painting from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and my Art Education License from Universidade Candido Mendes. I began my career as a painter and while exploring other forms of creative expression, I discovered a passion for visual storytelling.

I work digitally and traditionally. Watercolors and colored pencils are my favorite traditional mediums. I love to tell my own stories through my work as well as to contribute to other projects. I’m specially drawn to heartfelt stories that explore children’s emotions and imagination.

I was a recipient of the 2021 SCBWI BIPOC Scholarship and the 2020 Kweli Children’s Literature Conference Scholarship. My work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators in New York and American Illustration. I’m a co-founder of #LatinxPitch. I’m a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, the Children’s Book Illustrators Group, and the Black Creators HQ. I teach animation to young artists at the Harlem School of the Arts.

I’m represented by Jemiscoe Chambers-Black of the Andrea Brown Literary Agency. For publishing inquiries, please email jemiscoe@andreabrownlit.com.
